Just before I tell you about this picture I took, allow me to tell you about myself. This is for the purpose of the first time reader of OOH.PH to get acquainted with what's in this blog, OOH.PH.
My name is Lloyd Tronco and I am the industry journalist for the advertising sector known as Out-of-Home Media. Out-of-Home media or OOH as itis now commonly known pertains to Outdoor Advertising, Billboards, Bus and Transit ads, posters in malls, LED screens on EDSA, or LCD screens in the malls and office buildings.
I've been in this business for about 40 years beginning from the time we had an outdoor advertising/billboard business in Bacolod City wherein billboards were handpainted on galvanized iron sheets. Later on, which was about twenty years ago, I worked at McCann-Erickson Philippines as a Media Strategist. Most of my work revolved around reaching the moving consumer through Out-of-Home media.
As such, I always take pictures of billboards, posters, LEDs, LCDs, and other outdoor advertisements, especially those which can make us smile.
In this blog, OOH.PH, I have documented the journey of out-of-home media in the Philippines. This is the go-to blog when it comes to OOH in the Philippines.
So on to the picture above.
This is a once in a lifetime picture of a McDonald's ad showing up in the LCD digital signage of Shake Shack. This was taken in 2019. The Shake Shack location was in BGC, Taguig, Philippines.
I know the details of how this happened but I am posting this here for you to guess how in the world a McDonald's ad showed up on Shake Shack's LED screen.
For me, this is proof that a good outdoor advertising ad can also be a good digital ad. I won't be surprised if this post becomes viral.
So, do you know what happened here? Why did the McDonald's ad air on Shake Shack's LCD screen?
Drop me a line. Click here and give a guess.
